“Soccket” Electronic Soccer Ball Is Africa’s New Renewable, Rechargeable Energy Source

If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you should have applied to Harvard, let me put your mind to rest.  The answer is “Yes”.

A team of four very bright women have teamed up to make a valuable contribution to the world by asking themselves one simple question, “What if the world renowned soccer ball did more than just play soccer?”

sOccket“, conceived at Harvard University, is a soccer ball that captures reusable energy with only fifteen minutes of regular play.  This energy can be sufficient to provide up to three hours of LED-generated light in addition to replenishing rechargeable batteries for numerous uses, including charging mobile phones.

Why sOccket?

One word: Need.  Even in our high-tech connected culture, the need for cheap, clean, simple, off-grid energy solutions is paramount.  sOccket, the power-generating soccer ball, can put the power literally at the feet of the developing world.  With 95% of Africa’s population living without access to electricity, that’s a very big deal.  The sOccket team is working hard to get their technology into the hands of schools, hospitals and churches – even individual households.  For more information about sOccet and a list of frequently asked questions you can visit their website at http://soccket.com.
